Kieran Brennan
Kieran is an artist living and working in Tullamore since 1991. He is a self taught artist working in a variety of media including oils, watercolour and papier-mâché.
Watercolors
Kieran is an accomplished watercolour painter who works in an impressionist style. By studying the landscape thoroughly, he distils the scene into a play of light and shade. Watercolour detests over-working, he says. I try to emphasise the mediums transparency. One brushstroke could show a far away mountain, or a forested background.
Kieran does not to pander to his audience. The viewer is as important as the artist, he feels, I dont believe an artist needs to paint every leaf or blade of grass. What keeps a painting interesting is the work the eye needs to do. Kierans watercolour paintings capture a fleeting play of light on a landscape. Infused with the spirit of the Midlands, his work explores skyscapes over lakes and bogland, or twilight at the ancient sites on the banks of the Shannon.
Workshops
Kieran has experience in delivering workshops to both adults and children. Recent workshops have been at a wheelchair respite centre, a theatre company based on a barge, and school groups participating in a Lions Club competition. Working with diverse groups in a participatory arts style, he helps them maximise their creative potential. Some of the pieces created include: individual and collaborative masks, large-scale collages, recycled monsters, cardboard castles, and a two-headed dinosaur made of rubbish!
